Boudoir privacy is pretty damn important.
Women deserve to have this kind of session for themselves but one thing I’ve noticed that stops them from having one is they don’t exactly know where their photos might end up. Who uses them? Where do they get stored? Do they get deleted if you don’t buy them?
I can answer these for you only as to what *I* do with your photographs, and this article will get updated if my policies change.
But first, know that I take your privacy pretty damn seriously. If you don’t want your cute butt on my Instagram for my followers to see, I’ll never post it. It’s entirely up to you. Every photo you see on my website, Instagram, or Facebook page, I have been given permission to post so women like yourself can find me.
So who gets to use them, exactly?
If you have given me permission to use your photographs, I will use them in online marketing, such as Facebook (either my business page or private VIP group), Instagram, Google, the Knot, and other various platforms where I have a presence. I do not upload your images to questionable sites; I only utilize trusted sites for marketing and online galleries.
For face portraits, I also allow – with your permission – my hair and makeup artists to use your images in their online portfolios, which usually consist of Facebook, Instagram, and their own personal websites. They will usually post a before and after picture to show off their own talent!
If I buy your digital collection, where do your photographs get stored?
I used to work for an IT consulting firm and while I know just enough to be dangerous when it comes to computer repairs, I do know how to keep my information and data safe. I store your photos in three places:
- My hard drive
- My NAS (network area storage) device, which is an encrypted data hub on my personal network
- And in the cloud, via an encrypted backup only I have access to.
Your photos are in triplicate just in case my house burns down. That’s a terrible thought, but even in the event of a personal catastrophe, I still want to be able to give you excellent service, and that means having backups. And they are encrypted because boudoir privacy is exponentially important in this business.
Do they get deleted if I don’t buy them?
I discard all images you don’t love enough to purchase, so if there is something you must have but cannot commit to purchasing right away, please let me know so we can talk about different options, including a payment plan. I also do not post non-purchased images to social media or my online portfolio.
If I give permission, when do I sign?
I’m so glad you asked! Because you don’t know what your photographs look like when you book in to a session, you have no idea the level of boudoir privacy you might want. I totally get that and stand behind it. Instead of including a permission slip with your client agreement, you will choose the images you would like to purchase, and then we’ll go through those to select which ones you are comfortable with me sharing. And if that happens to be none, that is totally okay with me!
