I could write a profound blogpost about Mrs. J’s boudoir session in my new studio, but it just won’t mean the same as it would if she told you herself in her own words. She was so much fun to photograph, we laughed throughout her entire session! When you have fun, *I* have fun!
So I introduce: Mrs. J!
Last month I had the absolute privilege of having a boudoir shoot with the ever talented, Jennifer Lynn James, and it was such an amazing experience, I felt compelled to share my story and why I booked this shoot for myself!!
I’m 41 years young and my name is Jennifer, but everyone calls me Joppy. I’m a tomboy at heart and live in Northern Virginia on a small farm with my family, 1 hubby of a decade, 2 human kids (a 15 year old son, and a 7 year old daughter), 6 goats, 3 Frenchies, and 2 barn cats! To me it’s a glamorous lifestyle, but it’s not one spent dolled up! I was scrolling Facebook one day and saw a friend post her own boudoir photos and I was blown away! They were beautiful, classy, and timeless and I was so intrigued I messaged her asking about the photographer and she pointed me to Supernova Boudoir by Jennifer James.

I joined Jennifer’s Facebook group, Supernova Boudi Babes, and discovered there were others each with their own beautiful boudoir photos and reasons for having them taken! This was a group full of different women from all walks of life who inspired and supported each other, and I wanted to be a part of it! It was time for me to do this for myself and celebrate where I was in my life because it hasn’t always been pretty. I’m a survivor of repeated childhood trauma and early Mother loss that led to depression, anxiety, divorce, addiction, suicidal thoughts, and one incredible and beautiful comeback!! I had been busy doing a lot of soul work over the last decade and finally felt good in my own skin and had finally discovered myself. Sadly, though, I still saw all of the negatives when I looked in the mirror. I wanted to see the strong, beautiful woman I knew I had been all along and this boudoir photo shoot was exactly what I needed to do for me to see myself in a new light! Photographs are great for storytelling and celebrating moments in life we don’t want to forget and more often than not, we women are taking the pictures of everyone else. We should celebrate our femininity and our bodies to remind ourselves of what we’ve overcome or simply because we feel beautiful!

Booking the shoot with Jennifer was an experience that truly changed my perspective and built my confidence from within! I was nervous and excited and not sure how I’d pull off sexy, but all of the nerves went away once I got to Jennifer’s beautiful loft studio! She’s such a lovely woman with a beautiful soul herself, and she talks you through every pose and encourages you with a fun and lighthearted vibe! Finn, her primary make-up artist, set the tone for a lovely day by glamming me up and doing my hair which was a first for me and she has a groovy Irish accent! I left the shoot feeling like a Queen for the day and was on cloud 10!
My husband went with me to my reveal and together with Jennifer’s help we put together my album! The only thing difficult about my shoot was picking through all of the beautiful images because they were ALL that good!! My marriage got a boost from this experience because I felt more confident and sexy! Most importantly for my story is I finally saw the woman that I have worked so hard to become! I can’t say enough good things about Jennifer’s talent and will be singing her praises any chance I get! She’s an extremely talented photographer and is an artist in the truest sense!
