Miss K’s Boudoir Session

Miss K is special to me. I met her through my former colleague who happens to be her wife, and she shares a mutual passion for the arts with me, is a complete history buff, and a total Southerner by way of western Virginia (not to be confused with West “by God” Virginia). She is as feminist as they come.

Sometimes it’s hard for me to articulate just how I feel about a session, so for this blog post, I’ve asked Miss K to write about her experience (after all, she IS a writer!). Read below, in her own words, her experience in our Ashburn, Virginia boudoir studio.

“I love my wife for many, many reasons, but I especially love her when she pushes me out of my comfort zone. Back in November, she approached me with a question about my interest in a boudoir session with Jennifer as a gift for my 30th birthday. My initial reaction to her proposal was very conflicted. On the one hand, I’d seen Jennifer’s amazing work and secretly wanted to be one of those beautiful women; but on the other, would I even be comfortable enough with my own body to allow myself to be seen in such a way. I’ve never had a great relationship with my body. I struggled with an eating disorder during my early twenties, which I’ve successfully kept in remission for several years now. Despite the progress I’ve made toward better self-love and health, those thoughts that once fueled my behavior still quietly reappear in the back of my mind sometimes. They always will. But I’ve learned that the best way to turn off that hateful voice is to defy it: to wear that dress, to say hi to that person, to be brave and do that boudoir session for yourself.

“It’s not always easy to view ourselves in our own skin, let alone someone else with a camera pointed at us. But Jennifer has made it her mission to use her talents for good, for showing women just how perfectly beautiful we are. She uses our bodies to create powerfully stunning works of feminine art. It really can’t get much better than that. My boudoir session was genuinely an experience I will never forget. For the first time in a long time, I felt beautiful and feminine and comfortable in my own skin. I felt empowered, and my wife took quick notice. My boudoir session with Jennifer was the perfect way to bring my twenties to a close while confidently beginning a new chapter with my thirties.”

Happy 30th Birthday, Miss K!!!
